Designing And Building Beautiful Gardens
This garden, belonging to a converted farmstead, was created on an unsightly piece of ground previously used as a midden that was
full of rubble and old machinery and with a septic tank in the middle. A decking was created to cover septic tank and provide a seating area. The slope of the garden was accommodated with terracing infilled with topsoil to cover rubbish beneath and allow for planting. The garden was orientated in direction of the spectacular views down the Shiskine valley to the sea beyond.

This new build house was surrounded by a bare field and gravel parking. The owners wanted the house to feel more secluded and to fit in with the surrounding landscape. A wrap around stone wall was built to tie garden elements together and behind this the garden was softened with planting and a lawn. A seating area was extended next to patio doors with  views to the Arran hills

The new owners of this house inherited a traditional
garden with lawns and a vegetable patch that had become overgrown and untidy. They wanted a low maintenance garden with plenty of space for sitting
out and entertaining.

A large double patio of slate paving was created
leading from the conservatory with slate paths linking different parts of garden. Changes of levels were managed with a combination of recycled sleeper and brick retaining walls. To add interest two raised planters were constructed; one with alpine planting visible from
kitchen window and the other with mixed planting.

This new build house was surrounded by waste ground filled with rubble and weeds. A gravel driveway and parking were installed for access and softened with a lawn and planting. Part of the lawn is constructed on mesh reinforcement to allow it to be used for parking.

A sharp drop below the house has been tamed by using retaining walls to lessen the slope and provide a planting area. The wall is constructed of sleepers held between galvanised beams that reflect the timber and galvanised steel used in the house construction.

This award winning rural hotel was situated in neglected gardens. Over a number of years we have tidied the existing gardens and introduced new planting. Pots have been installed in outdoor seating areas and by hotel entrance. These were planted with bedding to compliment colours used in hotel interior and provide a link between inside and outside space.

To improve first impressions the area round car park was completely re-modelled using architectural planting edged with recycled sleepers and sandstone path to owners house. Large feature containers were constructed using pebble filled mesh and sleepers to create focal points.

This garden, behind a row of houses, was nearly ten times as long as it was broad. The challenge was to create something that did not look like an endless corridor. The solution; to create a number of different areas that become gradually less formal moving from a formal patio area to semi formal lawn with formal planting areas to an informal lawn and flower bed, and finally to a wildlife and vegetable garden.

The path through the garden does not travel directly from one end to the other but moves from side to side with different features and views being revealed along the way.  Pergolas define the transition from one area to another and provide the garden height as well as support for climbing plants

This patio was constructed of recycled tiles from a baker's oven combined with recycled pavers to create an interesting pattern. A stepping stone path of recycled tiles leads to the patio and a border of woodland plants was created as a backdrop.

This modern interpretation of a Victorian style garden was designed to compliment the Victorian house it surrounds. Period details such as ceramic tiles and rope top edging were used along with statues and antique planters. Mixed plantings of perennials and grasses were used to create a low maintenance alternative to Victorian bedding schemes and to echo the patterns and colours of the ceramic tiles.

This contemporary, low maintenance garden was designed to loo good from the house and be easy to get around and maintain by its mobility impaired owner. Grasses and perennials are planted through the gravel and there is a raised bed for growing herbs. A stainless steel water feature and slate tile wall increase interest and help to break up the long garden.
